The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) is an EU regulation designed to increase transparency on how sustainability risks and impacts are integrated into investment decisions. It requires asset managers, advisers, and investment funds to disclose how they consider environmental and social factors. For investment managers, SFDR compliance strengthens credibility and investor confidence in ESG strategies.

SFDR applies to all EU financial market participants, including UCITS managers, AIFMs, MiFID portfolio managers, and advisers, as well as non-EU firms marketing into the EU. Private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, and infrastructure funds are in scope if they raise EU capital. Article 6 funds integrate sustainability risks but make no ESG claims, Article 8 funds promote environmental or social characteristics, and Article 9 funds have a sustainable investment objective.
