This methodology sets out how Integrum ESG collects, validates and reports ESG Data Convergence Initiative (EDCI) metrics for private markets GPs. Portfolio companies complete an automated EDCI questionnaire with plain-language guidance on every question, our analysts review each submission before it goes to the EDCI and the results sit alongside the rest of each company’s ESG data on the Integrum ESG Platform.
Background
What the EDCI is
The ESG Data Convergence Initiative is a collaboration between LPs and GPs in private markets. Its aim is comparable ESG reporting on a set of metrics that members have jointly agreed as core metrics, so LPs receive the same data, defined the same way, from every manager they invest with.
BCG administers the initiative, with support from ILPA. According to the EDCI, more than 500 GPs and LPs, with around $59 trillion in assets under management, have committed to it. Its 2025 benchmark, released in October 2025, covered 2024 data from 9,048 portfolio companies submitted by 320 GPs.
GPs submit their portfolio companies’ data once a year, and the EDCI publishes each year’s submission deadline on its website. Participating GPs can then compare their portfolio companies against the benchmark by industry and country.
Metrics
The EDCI metrics
The EDCI groups its metrics into the categories below. Core metrics are those every participating GP is asked to report; optional metrics are reported where available.
| Category | Core metrics | Optional metrics |
|---|---|---|
| GHG emissions | Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions | Scope 3 emissions |
| Renewable energy | Share of energy consumed from renewable sources | |
| Decarbonisation | Decarbonisation strategy, short-term targets and long-term net zero ambition | |
| Diversity | Percentage of women on the board and in the C-suite | Percentage of the board from underrepresented groups |
| Health and safety | Work-related injuries, fatalities and days lost to injury | |
| Hiring and turnover | Organic and total new hires, turnover and net new hires | |
| Employee engagement | Whether the company runs an employee engagement survey | Survey response rate and employee satisfaction |
| Cybersecurity | Cybersecurity testing, added for 2026 |
Our EDCI questionnaire is built around the core metrics and follows the definitions in the EDCI Metrics Guidance, so the data portfolio companies submit through us matches what the EDCI asks for.
Collection
How we collect the data
GPs distribute the EDCI questionnaire across any portfolio through our ESG Data Capture Portal. It can be sent on its own or alongside the other sections of the portal, such as SASB-based sustainability metrics, governance and SDG alignment.
- Distribute The GP switches on the EDCI section for each portfolio company and invites the relevant person at the company by email.
- Complete The company works through each EDCI metric in turn. Every question carries a plain-language explanation, so the company knows exactly what information to provide: no more and no less.
- Record Each answer is stored with the name of the person who last updated it and when, giving the GP a clear audit trail.
- Submit The company submits its data, which goes straight to our analysts for review.
Worked example: GHG emissions
For the GHG Emissions metric, a portfolio company, ABC Apparel, is asked to:
- Disclose its Scope 1 emissions: it enters 200 and selects tCO2e as the unit. The questionnaire confirms the figure as 200 tCO2e and converts any other unit selected.
- State its Scope 1 methodology: it chooses from the four calculation methodologies set out in the EDCI Metrics Guidance appendix, which are based on the GHG Protocol and CDP. The guidance note explains that this disclosure is optional under the EDCI.
- Disclose its Scope 2 emissions: the guidance note explains the difference between Scope 1 emissions, emitted directly by the company’s activities, and Scope 2 emissions, emitted when producing the energy the company uses.
Validation
Validation and support
We support GPs before, during and after their EDCI submission.
Analyst review
Our ESG analysts review every submission for completeness and accuracy and flag anomalies before the data goes to the EDCI.
Error detection
Automatic flags identify incomplete or inconsistent answers, so portfolio companies can correct them quickly and GPs spend less time on manual checks.
Consultant support
We work with expert consultants who can help issue questionnaires, collect data and answer questions GPs have or receive after submission.
End-to-end oversight
GPs can track submissions and progress across every participating portfolio company in real time.
Reporting
Reporting and consolidation
Once validated, the EDCI metrics appear in a dedicated EDCI view on the Integrum ESG Platform, showing each metric side by side across portfolio companies: Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, renewable energy consumption and gender diversity on the board and in the C-suite. Where a company has not disclosed a figure, the view marks it as not disclosed, so the GP can see at a glance where to follow up.
EDCI data is one part of what the Integrum ESG Platform holds. The same portfolio companies can be assessed against every other framework we offer, from SASB-based ESG scores under the Integrum ESG Scoring Framework to SFDR status, carbon footprint and real-time controversy alerts. GPs report to the EDCI and to their LPs from one set of validated data.
Onboarding
Onboarding
EDCI reporting runs to a fixed annual deadline, so onboarding is kept short. Our EDCI templates are pre-configured, the platform is web-hosted with nothing to install and data collection can start within days of signing. Pricing is transparent from the outset.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is the ESG Data Convergence Initiative (EDCI)?
The EDCI is a collaboration between LPs and GPs in private markets to standardise ESG reporting on a set of agreed core metrics. BCG administers it with support from ILPA, and more than 500 GPs and LPs have committed to it.
What are the EDCI core metrics?
The core metrics cover Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions, renewable energy, decarbonisation targets, board and C-suite gender diversity, work-related injuries, net new hires, turnover and employee engagement. Scope 3 emissions, underrepresented groups on the board and cybersecurity testing are optional.
When is the EDCI submission deadline?
GPs submit data to the EDCI once a year, and the EDCI publishes each year’s deadline on its website. With Integrum ESG, data collection can start within days of signing.
Who checks the data before it is submitted?
Our ESG analysts review every portfolio company submission for completeness and accuracy and flag anomalies so they can be corrected before the data goes to the EDCI.
Can EDCI data be combined with other ESG frameworks?
Yes. EDCI metrics sit on the Integrum ESG Platform alongside our SASB-based ESG scores, governance, SDG alignment, SFDR and carbon data, so GPs can report to the EDCI and to their LPs from one data set.
Do portfolio companies need training to complete the questionnaire?
No. Every question carries a plain-language explanation of what is needed, and our team and partner consultants can help if a company has questions.
Can private credit managers use it?
Yes. The questionnaire works for any private markets manager collecting data from portfolio companies, and the EDCI benchmark is open to private credit members.
